Flares for Fall

flare-jeans

Marina Larroude

I pulled some old favorites out of my closet last weekend, lovelies. Jeans—ones I probably haven’t worn in a couple years. Ever since the skinny jeans trend hit, my flared jeans have been relegated to the back of the closet and forgotten except for the rare occasion. But this fall, I started noticing a “new trend” popping up across the blogs and street style websites. Flare jeans are back! Not that I don’t love my skinnies, but I have to admit I’ve missed the way you can put on a stacked wedge or heel with a pair of flare jeans and have legs that look like they go on for days. I love the long lean look you can achieve with flared jeans. It’s just a nice change of pace and feels fresh after so many years where the skinny jean ruled. Here’s to a more balanced jean life.

Spring Trend: Lilac

Lilac

One of my all time favorite things about spring is lilacs. I wish they bloomed year round – their fragrance is intoxicating to me. I can’t get enough. I’ve even been known to take long walks around my neighborhood with scissors trimming the ones that happen to encroach over the borders of the sidewalk. Fair game, right?! I hope someday I have a dozen lilac bushes in my yard. Anyway, it clearly delights me that this spring, the shades of lilacs are trending across all areas – from eyeshadow and nail polish to clothing and accessories. And you better believe Lilac Path from Aerin is on my list of fragrances to add to my ever-growing collection.

How are you wearing lilac this season?

Fashion Inspiration: Beanies

Beanies were all over the fall and winter runways and I for one, am delighted. They’ve finally got some street style cred. I’ve always loved beanies for bad hair days during the colder months and often rock the slouched look with messy wavy hair. But after seeing them on the runways for this season, I’ve realized they’re now being dressed up as a stylishly acceptable accessory with outfits of every kind — day to night, with heels, with skirts, with feminine coats. They’re not just for skaters, snowboarders, fishermen and grungy college boys anymore! I’ve got to get out and add to my collection because they are going to be one of my top staples for the wintery weather on the way.

Of the Moment Mint

Mint is having a moment—have you noticed? I for one, couldn’t be happier. Mainly because I happen to look quite lovely in mint. I’m always a big fan of the pastel shades—the girly girl in me loves them—but I am happy to pick just one this coming spring. More mint in 2013!

I love the flats especially! I can just picture them with cropped white or dark denim skinny jeans this spring. The perfect pop of color for when the weather finally turns warm again.

Pantone Color of 2013: Emerald Green

Pantone-Color-2013-Emerald-Green

Doutzen Kroes in Elie Saab

The gurus of color at Pantone announced the Color of 2013 this past week and the winner is emerald. Think: the grand make-believe city of Oz, Elizabeth Taylor’s gems, and all the shades of green in a deep forest and four leaf clovers. It’s lush, vivid, deep and said to be a balancing, harmonizing color.

The easiest way to incorporate emerald into your wardrobe is easy—with jewelry like earrings and rings. You could also try it out with the colored denim trend and get a pair of deep green jeans. Emerald is a great shade for when you need to dress up as well—silk blouses, gowns, and skirts all look luxurious in this rich hue. If you feel bold, try an emerald green eyeshadow or dyed emerald green fur. Coincidentally, its also a great shade to use to dress up for the holidays—just don’t do the whole red and green combo together. It’s a little too One-of-Santa’s-Elves.

Fashion Inspiration: Baroque Black and Gold

Brocade Baroque Black and Gold

Dolce and Gabbana, Fall 2012

This fall and winter, ornate details and extravagant brocade details are super hot! The sumptuous look of baroque style is back with rich golds, plums, blacks—and all of it, over the top. It’s all about going overboard with the details to get that ultra-luxe royalty look. My favorite way to do this trend is with a black and gold color scheme. It seems to make it look that much more regal and royal.

The look is popping up all over the place—from dresses and skirts to pants and tops. I think a baroque-looking brocade pant would be a great piece for the holiday season and all of the events and cocktail parties that come with it. Something a little different but equally dressy and luxurious to boot!

I am dying over the black blazer from Rag and Bone with the gold collar. And the brocade pencil skirt from Gucci? To. Die. For. Sexy.

Which piece is your favorite?
