Calypso St. Barth came to Seattle this past month and I for one, could not have been more excited. I’ve loved the ultra-luxe brand for awhile now, so this was big news for me. I was so honored to be asked by them to host a special event at the new store for their Calypso Cares project benefitting Covenant House last weekend. All my friends and family and plenty of fashionable ladies stopped by to shop for super soft cashmere, cozy winter ensembles, glittering sequins, and deals on sweaters if they brought in a gently used one of their own for the teens of Covenant House. And you guys — if you haven’t been to the store yet, get thee to University Village stat. This store is gorgeous. Oh, and we had cookies and hot cocoa.
Everything is so beautifully merchandised at Calypso — makes shopping even easier (like it’s ever difficult). They even have a little home section with agate coasters I am seriously coveting, pillows with amazing textures, and little gifts.
I was all about the rabbit fur vest and went home with the cozy knit beanie with the pom on the top. Friends of mine went home with sweaters and even an incredible fur neck warmer that we decided could also be used as a turban – a furban if you will. Everyone had a blast trying on something – including the glam gold sequined evening gown. That was on the top of every wish list. As was a place to wear it to.
Thanks for having me Calypso St. Barth! It was so fun helping so many lovely ladies pick out winter fashions and lending a helping hand to Covenant House.
Have you guys noticed the recent midi ring trend? I’ve been seeing it everywhere recently and it’s such a pretty way to dress up your digits beyond nail art and cocktail rings. I love dainty jewelry, so it’s high on my list of trends to try. Except that I am one, afraid it won’t stay on—don’t they look like they could just slide right off?—and two, I think my fingers may not be long, graceful, and elegant enough. They tend more toward the sausage side of things. Regardless, I am going to slip one on to see how it looks next time I run across one.
My weekend was delightful. A Donavon Frankereiter concert with my guy and his brother, taking in the cherry blossoms blooming on the University of Washington campus, shopping for new shoes with my mom and older brother (my first pair of Chanel shoes!), a Saturday night girls’ night in with one of my besties, chocolate, champagne, magazines, and an at home facial from Jessica Alba’s new book, and Easter with the family and a cocktail competition. Deeeeelightful.
P.S. — the facial made my skin feel super soft and it glowed for the next few days. The best part? All the ingredients were in the kitchen! Try it out
1/2 cup full fat Greek yogurt
1 tbs ground coffee
A dash lemon juice
Let it dry before rinsing it off with a warm washcloth.
The Kate Spade Saturday collection came out recently, and it’s all bright colors, bold patterns, graphic prints, and full of fun, carefree spirit—much like Kate Spade, but with a more casual, laid-back, weekend vibe. Unless you live in Japan, it’s only available online, but knowing the quality of Kate Spade, that doesn’t bother me. Plus, there are so many cute options—these are just a few of my favorites. Especially: the calendar that focuses on weekends. It’s a beautiful thing!
I love you, Kate. You’ve done it again!
Three books I am reading right now. Yes, three. I have three teetering stacks of books on my nightstand right now and I am reading all of them. I get so excited that I can’t just wait and have to read a couple at a time. One I will read on my lunch break, one before bed…you get the idea. Currently, I am reading a book of short stories on love, Other People We Married, a book on a family on the weekend of the eldest daughter’s wedding, Seating Arrangements, and like every other fashion lover and blogger out there right now, I’m reading Grace: A Memoir. I just adore her. After she stole the show in the September Issue a couple years ago and didn’t take any sass from Anna Wintour, I’ve been head over heels for her.
Three albums I am playing on repeat right now. The 20/20 Experience from Justin Timberlake—DUH. I’ve loved him since he was an N’Sync-er and I was a teeny bopper, and nothing has changed. My favorite song on the album is Mirrors—even though I am pretty sure he wrote it for Jessica Biel and that makes me jealous. When I’m working or trying to relax and reboot, I play the Malady of Elegance by Goldmund. Its so beautiful and soothing. The piano soundscapes are so moving to me—on In A Notebook, especially.. Finally, when I need something poppy and upbeat to sing along to, it’s In Our Heads by Hot Chip. Always Been Your Love is my favorite track off this album.
Three things I am currently coveting. First, a brightly colored spring and summer dress from Shoshanna. Too bad it isn’t ever warm enough on Easter in Seattle to wear a dress like this. Doesn’t it kind of look like Easter egg colors? Second, I am dying for one of the beautiful duffel bags from Clare Vivier—monogrammed, of course. I never pass up the chance to monogram something. Third, a pretty pen from Lanvin—totally ridiculous and unnecessary, but I am a sucker for a lovely writing instrument sitting on my desk just looking pretty.
What are you reading right now? What are you listening to? I would love to hear your suggestions!
There is another great collabor-YAY-tion that is hitting stores. Diane von Furstenberg Loves Roxy launched last week and I am supes excited. I am a huge fan of DVF and her colorful clothes, great prints and incredible wrap dresses, and Roxy suits my casual wanna-be-surfer-girl vibe once summer finally arrives in Seattle, perfectly. There are board shorts, rash guards, bikinis, cover ups—and all in DVF’s signature bold prints. The look-book is to-die-for as well—between the cute suits and the gorgeous scenery, I am beyond ready for a tropical getaway. I need a beach, palms trees, clear blue water and a drink with an umbrella in it ASAP.
Oh my life, I just fell in love. Can these shoes be my Valentine this year? Because I want them to be mine, forever. Loeffler Randall has always made incredible shoes. Remember this collabor-YAY-tion with J.Crew last year? This pair, the Dahlia platform sandal, is a collabor-YAY-tion (like my new word?) too—with Tucker. Hope to see these bad boys dancing on my feet come spring!
Mint is having a moment—have you noticed? I for one, couldn’t be happier. Mainly because I happen to look quite lovely in mint. I’m always a big fan of the pastel shades—the girly girl in me loves them—but I am happy to pick just one this coming spring. More mint in 2013!
I love the flats especially! I can just picture them with cropped white or dark denim skinny jeans this spring. The perfect pop of color for when the weather finally turns warm again.
It has been clear, sunny and cold-cold-cold here in Seattle the past few weeks, and it’s making my skin super dry and making me want to just stay inside all bundled up and cozy. Not to mention, I am headed to the Alt Summit blogger’s conference next week in Salt Lake City where the temperatures are lower than I have ever experienced. So, needles to say, cold weather and how to deal is on my mind. Cute gloves and a heavy moisturizer are essential as is Kiehl’s lip balm and a good pair of slippers. Don’t forget the water bottle for chilly nights and always, always, have some hot chocolate on hand.
