New Years Eve 2012

It’s hard to believe that 2o13 is only a few days away. I say it every year, but truly, each year seems to go by faster than the last. It’s been a good year for me and for The Style Umbrella and I have to thank you, lovely readers, for making it so. Thank you for reading, for commenting, for sharing, for sending emails and queries for style advice—I wouldn’t be doing this without you and you all make it so worth it.

For now, I will leave you with a few of my favorite posts from 2012—if you missed them, it’s like a new treat, and if you loved them, you get to relive the joy of reading it the first time. Wink, wink. Enjoy!

We took a roadtrip and learned the art of packing from an adorable Louis Vuitton video….

We fell head over heels in love with the look of vintage-style pajama sets

We delighted in the whimsical art of Chloe Fleury and Hopscotch Design

We gathered a little style inspiration from the classic movie, Dazed and Confused

We learned how to perfect the bun and make it fun and playful with cute accessories…

We admired the style of one Miss Brigitte Bardot and discovered what tools and tricks we needed to get her look:

And, we shopped one of my favorite boutiques—Watson Kennedy in Seattle—a treasure trove of unique, pretty accoutrements for the home…

And that was just a sprinkling of the past year…check out the archives for more!

Lots of love and best wishes in the New Year!

Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

Images via

I first spotted this amazing image when I was browsing Pinterest last week—I was immediately taken with the bright red dress with the bow and classic silhouette—not to mention the red lips, perfect chignon and killer shoes. The image was from the look-book for Carolina Herrera’s Pre-Fall 2013 Collection, so of course, I had to chase down the rest of the images on right away. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint! Each piece is exquisite—classic, feminine, ladylike and grown up. I just can’t stop drooling over the whole collection. I know Fall 2013 is a long way away, but come on—feast your eyes…

Which look is your favorite? I would pick the short navy dress with the black lace top—siiiiiigh.

Gift Guide: Holiday Wrappings

Once all the gifts are picked out and purchased, it’s time to wrap them up all pretty. I am a huge fan (and sucker for) pretty packaging and that always applies to my holiday presents too. The past year or two, I have been really into the more “rustic” and “crafty” wrapping looks. Kraft paper, twine, and classic red and green accents. Whatever your packaging preferences, wrap it up with lots of love this holiday season!

Pantone Color of 2013: Emerald Green

Doutzen Kroes in Elie Saab

The gurus of color at Pantone announced the Color of 2013 this past week and the winner is emerald. Think: the grand make-believe city of Oz, Elizabeth Taylor’s gems, and all the shades of green in a deep forest and four leaf clovers. It’s lush, vivid, deep and said to be a balancing, harmonizing color.

The easiest way to incorporate emerald into your wardrobe is easy—with jewelry like earrings and rings. You could also try it out with the colored denim trend and get a pair of deep green jeans. Emerald is a great shade for when you need to dress up as well—silk blouses, gowns, and skirts all look luxurious in this rich hue. If you feel bold, try an emerald green eyeshadow or dyed emerald green fur. Coincidentally, its also a great shade to use to dress up for the holidays—just don’t do the whole red and green combo together. It’s a little too One-of-Santa’s-Elves.

How are you going to rock emerald in 2013?
