Designer Spotlight: Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2012

Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2012

Mark Segal for Louis Vuitton

I love to see the look books that designers put together for their collections – its such a wonderful way to get a little more insight into what their inspirations are and what kind of a look they are going after. This catalogue from Louis Vuitton’s Cruise Collection 2012 is particularly charming. The colors, the fashion, the images of Paris, the carefree but always stylish and chic vibe – I love it all!

Doesn’t it just make you want to be her? Lunching at sidewalk cafes in Paris – always perfectly Parisian and chic? Model Arizona Muse is just the picture of French style in these shots – I adore the slight 1920’s vibe to her hair, and her makeup is to die for. It is an ideal spring look – bright lips, rosy cheeks, and the strong brow that has been taking over lately!

Each look is so sophisticated – I am especially drooling over the high waist white trousers and the tweed jackets. And don’t even get me started on the bags. It’s Louis Vuitton. Of course they are all ahhhhh-mayzing.

Won’t someone whisk me away to Paris for picnics, sidewalk cafes and long walks along the Seine?

Le sigh.

Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2012 Red Carpet, Amy Adams

Via Vanity Fair

So, unless you live under a rock, everyone knows the Oscars were last night. Usually, sitting down to watch the red carpet and judge the fashions and gowns is one of my favorite parts of the Academy Awards. But last night, I was actually, I hate to say it, bored with the Oscar style. There wasn’t one gown that blew me away or stood out, and if I loved the dress, I usually didn’t like the hair. There were some gorgeous looks last night, don’t get me wrong, but over all, I wasn’t wow-ed!

Lucky me, when I got up this morning, the photos from Vanity Fair’s Oscar party were out. I think this was the red carpet I was hoping and looking for…far more interesting! Elizabeth Banks wore a really unique dress  by Chadwick Bell, but she looked fabulous! Newcomer Lily Collins looked amazing in Monique Lhuillier – keeping the look from getting too stuffy or old for her by styling her hair in a messy ponytail. Also, one thing I never thought I would say: Miley Cyrus looked fabulous. Grown up and stylish in Roberto Cavalli, but still age appropriate – I loved her whole look! I also thought Zoe Saldana’s makeup and hair were perfection, and Diane Kruger’s Calvin Klein dress blew me away!

What did you think about the looks on the red carpet this year? Which ones did you like best??

Happy Weekend: Lovely Links

Via The Glitter Guide

We’ve finally reached the weekend. This was a short week for me – taking Monday off for President’s Day – but somehow it managed to still feel like two weeks crammed into one. I am ready for some relaxation and some fun. The relaxation may have to wait though, because there are too many fun things I want to do this weekend. More vintage and antique shops I want to peruse for the continuing bedroom makeover, a few new restaurants I still need to try here in Seattle (Skillet and Bitter Root are high on my list right now!), I want to see The Vow (bring on the cheese!), there’s a baby shower, and of course, the Oscars on Sunday!

Until then, here are your lovely links for the week…

Fashion Inspiration: Scallops

Scalloped Dress

Kelsey Genna

I’ve been keeping a close eye on all of the fashion trends for spring for months now, but the one that I am currently shopping for, myself? Scallops! Scalloped necklines, scalloped hemlines, scallops on accessories, scallops scallops everywhere! But seriously, I love this detail – its so feminine and romantic – even a little prim and proper. You can go big with scallops forming the dress or skirt entirely, or you can go small – letting it line the edge of a handbag or shoe. I adore additions like this to otherwise “plain” pieces – gives it a little life! I am looking for a pair of shorts with a big scalloped hem – or a blousy top that has a scalloped hem along the bottom.

I think designers must feel the same way – that scallops should be a fun and girly spring and summer wardrobe staple, because they were all over the runways in collections by Victoria Beckham and Jill Stuart. In fact, Victoria Beckham went crazy with them! So anyway, I am on the hunt for some fabulous pieces like these…

Rupert Sanderson Heels, Black Temperley London Dress, Purple TopShop Tank, Nude Chloe Ballet Flats, Kate Spade Bangle, Asos Mint Green Bag, Nude See by Chloe Wallet, Red Giuletta Skirt, Red Miu Miu Bikini, White and Gold Chloe Dress

As you can see, scallops look good on anything.

West Elm Spring 2012 Collection

West Elm logo

Last week I was lucky enough to attend the West Elm Spring Collection viewing here at the Seattle store. It was so fun to get a sneak peek into what’s new for spring in the world of interior decorating and design while eating cupcakes and sipping Dry Soda.

One of the most interesting parts was seeing the collaborations that West Elm has been working on with talented independent artists in the creative community. I was especially drawn to their collaboration with indoor garden designer Shane Powers. I love his terrariums, floating glass orbs for planters and bud vases. The display for this collaboration was so creative too – I am obsessed with succulents, and there were plenty!

West Elm Spring Collection 2012

The spring bedding was great too – I love the layered bed look that incorporates a whole palette of colors and textures, prints and solids. The ocean-y green and blue palette was very soothing and would look great with some blue and green recycled glass vases and bottles scattered around the room.

Also, we have to talk about these two pieces of furniture below – the coffee table and the bed frame. You guys, this coffee table is the most perfect home accessory for a blogger like myself. There is a little desk piece that pulls out and up – perfect for blogging while sitting on the couch. And there’s room for storage inside – I am totally smitten with this brilliant design. Now, the bed – this is one of the things I love most about West Elm – the Stria frame was made from reclaimed railroad ties from India – totally repurposed! You have to admire a company that strives to do things like that.

And can we all take a minute to fully appreciate the awesome-ness that is the giant chevron print pouf? Ahhhh.

West Elm Spring Collection 2012

Finally, these may not be from the new Spring collection, but they are my absolute most favorite picks from West Elm – things I am just dying over.

First the incredible faux fur throw – I am already dreaming of all the amazing naps I am going to have snuggled underneath it. Second, I loved one of the design tips they gave us for decorating with books – displaying them with the pages out. I love this totally unique spin on putting together a bookshelf. Thinking of trying it with mine this weekend.

Next, the  mirrored console table with the circles – there is something so Mad Men-esque about it that I adore. Plus, anything mirrored is kind of rocking my world right now. Lastly, the Essex Ottoman. This will absolutely be my next big purchase for the house – I have been looking for an ottoman to replace my coffee table and this one is just the right size, right pattern, and I like how low it is to the ground and that it has a feet.

West Elm Spring Collection 2012

Oh, West Elm, what’s not to love!? The Spring Collection really is gorgeous – tons of blues, greens and aquamarines, as well as shades of coral. There are lots of ethnic prints and textiles (blankets made from old saris!), bright colors for kitchenware and a bunch of great artist collaborations. Time to scurry on over to your local West Elm and check it all out.

Three Cheers For: Natural Stone Jewelry

Natural Stone Jewelry

Via LeifShop

Over the past few weeks, as the spring and summer collections have started to hit the stores, I’ve noticed a huge trend in the new jewelry coming out – natural stones. It seems like raw, natural stones are everywhere right now – making up chunky statement rings, hanging on necklaces and dangling from earlobes. The stones and gems are rough and raw cuts of quartz, opal, jasper, agates and more. The look is natural and unique, but it definitely makes a bold statement with the crazy cuts, finishes and colors. I love that its different than a lot of jewelry, so I’m already adding pieces to my collection – I plan on wearing the look with things like white button down shirts and white tank tops in summer, and letting these gems take center stage.

Natural Stone Jewelry

Blydesign Geode Cuff, Kimberly McDonald Necklace, Liz Larios Ring, Alexandra Beth Druzy Wrap Bracelet, Mali Sabatasso Green Turquoise Ring, Kelly Wearstler Pyrite Cluster Cuff, Kimberly McDonald Earrings, Pamela Love Bronze and Quartz Bangle

Are you going to go au naturale this season?
