My latest fashion obsession is the slightly over-sized silk blouse – there is something so classic, so chic and so simple about it. And it can be worn in so many different ways – tucked into a high-waisted pencil skirt or jeans, tucked into sleek skinny trousers, long and billowing for a more bohemian feel – the options are practically endless. I have been coveting the blouses from Equipment for a while now – the black sheer one for a sexy evening top, one with a bold print for fall, and one in every color for any other day. The silk gives them such a flattering shape, and makes this menswear-inspired piece a feminine staple.
Check out some of my favorite variations on the silk blouse…the sheer navy tuxedo version would be great for a date night this holiday season, and the draped emerald green one with the low cut neckline would be easy to dress up for a cocktail party or fashion event.

Isn’t that the truth. And on that note, I am off for a weekend on the coast – where I will be soaking up the ocean air and taking a little break from the regular world.
See you all next week!
One of the fall trends I have fallen hardest for, is the big, bright, bold, colorful jewelry that is all over the place. Just this week, Bauble Bar and Erickson Beamon collaborated together on a capsule collection that has one of the most brilliantly colorful necklaces I have ever laid eyes on. I’d pair it with a little black dress and take it out on the town!
The bigger and bolder the pieces this fall, I say, the better. In what can be such a dreary and gray season here in Seattle, anything that will bring a pop of color into my day, is a winner in my book. The statement-making necklaces are fabulous, but I think I am going to be stocking up on the rainbow colored earrings in all sizes and shapes. I’m just feeling the big eye-catching earrings right now – we’re having a moment. Check out some of my favorites from around the web…
How amazing is this red, orange and yellow Tom Binns necklace? Absolutely brilliant and stunning – reminds me of the fall leaves that are starting to change colors.
I think that purple bead necklace below, from Bauble Bar, is one of my favorites. First of all, its purple (Go Huskies!) – second, wouldn’t it look fabulous with a white collared shirt? Simple and Chic.
So, you can probably guess my favorite piece in the next set – the purple earrings from Kendra Scott, you say? Well, that would be correct! Although, I would take any of the other pieces as well – I don’t like to discriminate against beautiful things.
Are you going to go big, bold and colorful with your jewels this fall?
Hello, lovelies! As you can see, The Style Umbrella has an all new look – welcome! I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes this summer – choosing fonts, playing with color schemes, sifting through layouts – and its finally all come together. The updated, infinitely more stylish blog is here, and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my amazingly talented graphic designer, Travis Andersen of Mindbogl Design – he made my vision come to life! And as always, let me know what you think – would love to hear your feedback on the new look and design.
So, stay tuned lovelies – so much more style to come!

I got my first pair of Hunter boots a few years ago – classic tall shiny black ones, and ever since that day, I’ve only wanted to add more colors to my collection. Now that its fall, and the rainiest of seasons here in Seattle, my Hunter boots are going to be back in heavy rotation. Usually, I just wear them with leggings or skinny jeans, and maybe a pair of thick, tall socks, but I’ve been feeling inspired to wear them in new fun ways this fall – maybe with a dress or skirt and tights.
There are so many gorgeous candy colored options – I think I need to add a few more to my closet – purple and pink for sure, maybe Tiffany blue and silver as well.

I recently came across the look book for Atelier Versace‘s fall collection and I am entirely smitten with it. Its like wearable art. The collection has a little bit of everything – leather, satin, sequins, crystals, bright colors, nudes, eastern and Asian influences and avant garde cuts and shapes. Its high fashion couture, lavish and over the top, but strikingly gorgeous at the same time.
I love the combination of purple and green in the first gown and the sculptural details of the last three.
How beautiful is this skirt – I adore the way it falls wraps and is such an intricate pattern and design without being too overpowering.
The feathery leaf details on this first dress are incredible. I could see any one of these gowns on a starlet on the red carpet – the sleek black one or the glowing rose gold sequin one, especially. And the bright pink ballerina inspired dress? My favorite. Naturally.

I can’t remember quite when I fell in love with Dallas Shaw and her whimsical fashion drawings, but it’s been awhile now. Dallas Shaw is a fashionista in her own right, with her own amazing sense of style that she infuses into her artwork.
She works in several different mediums, but my favorites are her fashion illustrations. She’s even collaborated with the likes of DKNY, Kate Spade, ShopBop and more – doing fashion sketches, custom designs and even helping develop products.
Personally, I would like to hang her sketches in my very own walk-in closet and dressing room someday. Wouldn’t that be the perfect place to display her chic sketches?

I especially love this series of sketches she did for some of the major fashion and style bloggers out there in the blogosphere during the holidays a few seasons ago. It would be a dream come true to have her sketch me in one of these collections someday!
